This Palo Cedro High School is a Catholic, co-educational college-preparatory day school located in Palo Cedro, California. The school is committed to continuing the development and enrichment of students' Catholic, intellectual, physical, emotional, cultural, and creative lives. Educational excellence, encouragement of creativity, and intellectual curiosity are a central focus of the High School. Here, students can develop skills and a desire to learn, fostering a successful attitude as they choose useful vocations, leadership positions, and assist in all aspects of society. The primary goal of the High School is to provide a positive environment where students can discover their strengths and gifts. The average SAT score at the High School was 86 points higher in 2005 than the California State average. Presently, there are approximately 250 students in attendance at the High School, with about 10 students from countries other than the United States.

The High School is located in Palo Cedro, northern California, seven (7) miles east of Redding, California, and near the foothills of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Palo Cedro is known for its small town friendliness and its old fashioned way of living. Horseback riding and hiking are a favorite pastime of this quaint town, and swimming and boating are great recreational activities to enjoy at Shasta Lake. Another exciting adventure is visiting the mysterious Shasta Caverns, and sailing is a popular sport on the Sacramento River. The weather in Palo Cedro can be quite mild in the winters, ranging from 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, with summers as low as 62 degrees and as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit.

Students at The High School are strict in terms of their dress guidelines. Both male and female students should come to school neat, clean, and modest in appearance. Button-down shirts, if worn, should always be fastened; any jacket or sweatshirt with the school's logo or a logo appropriate to the school's philosophy may be worn as an outer garment. Hoods, hats, caps, visors, headbands, scarves, or sunglasses are not permitted inside the school. The wearing of spaghetti straps, tight clothing, t-shirts, halter-tops, peasant blouses, bare midriffs, see-through blouses are also not permitted. No flip-flops, water shoes, or bedroom slippers may be worn; all footwear must be neat and clean and worn at all times. Pants must be neat; Docker-style pants are preferred, but jeans neat in appearance are acceptable, but must be worn at the waist level. Shorts and skirts are acceptable, as long as they come below the fingertip while standing upright. However, no swim trunks, gym shorts, warm-up suits, running shorts, or cut-offs are permitted. For male students, hair cannot extend below the top of the collar of a standard collared shirt and sideburns must not extend below the bottom of the ear. No facial hair is permitted. For both male and female students, no tails, Mohawks, dreadlocks, or braids are allowed. Only natural hair colors are permitted; even if dyed, hair must have a ?natural? color.

Students attending The High School will be placed with carefully selected host families in and around the Palo Cedro area. A local contact person will be appointed to oversee the students and the host families for the duration of the students' stay in the United States.
